or a machine or a freak!  ok, this is NOT a rant, even though at times it may seem like i am getting a little worked up...i really just want to explain why i do eat ice cream and cookies and mac n' cheese and fried food and candy and ranch dip with veggies occasionally besides the obvious reason that i am NOT an alien from a far off land that only eats food when i need it to fuel my many intergalactic explorations!   i eat nutrient dense foods most of the time because i have learned to prepare and enjoy them just as much, most of the time more, than calorie dense/nutrient poor foods and i feel much better after i am done!  i occasionally do enjoy nutrient poor foods and sometimes i feel crappy after and sometimes i feel fine.  sometimes i totally enjoy the food and have zero guilt afterwards because i feel like the food was good enough for me!  when i go to a friend's or family member's house and they prepared a wonderful meal for me, no matter if it is super nutrient dense or not, i am going to eat it and enjoy it, unless it is something i deeply do not believe in, which is rarely the case.  i would say about 90% of the time when i am at a party or a gathering and many people know that i am a dietitian, they ask me tons of nutrition questions and/or comment on the foods i am eating.  i do NOT mind this most of the time, especially the questions, i love to help people out with their nutrition lifestyle, but sometimes it just cracks me up when someone comments that i am eating dip with my raw veggies!!!   yes, i sometimes eat dip!!!  yesterday, ryan and i had an amazing meal at his sister's house....homemade mac n' cheese and tons of cookies, brownies, and other desserts were some of the not so nutrient dense foods...but she also had plenty of raw veggies, fruits, and homemade muffins AND she made us some granola for breakfast.  it was all great!  BUT of course i got the comments from the friends..."let's see what the dietitian is eating!"   this is one of those times where i will eat what is made for me, thoroughly enjoy it and feel no guilt after!  yes, i do this occasionally!  and not only did i do it for lunch that day, i did it for dinner too!!!  ry and i stopped at Trader Joe's on our way home, stocked up on groceries for the week, and got some easy frozen food items for dinner.....fish sticks (inspired by Jane...sorry jane, i exposed you!) and sweet potato gnocchi with butter and sage.  it was awesome!  check it out...

i love sharing my nutrient dense food ideas and recipes with you...but that is not all i am!  sometimes i do make the mistake of eating too much junk and feeling guilty and sick!   sometimes i simply don't think about nutrient density and eat what is made for me and enjoy it!  do i usually get back to my normal habits the next day?....YES!!!!  i have got some great meals planned for this week....tonight's meal was inspired by Heather Judd!  thanks for everything this past weekend, we had a great time!   your crockpot chicken and yellow rice inspired me to do crockpot porkloin over crispy polenta!  stay tuned for recipe!  have a wonderful monday everyone!
